چکیده

We report low-energy locally stable structures for the clusters Si 20 and Si21 . The structures were obtained by performing geometry optimizations within the local density approximation. Our calculated binding energies for these clusters are larger than any previously reported for this size regime. To aid in the experimental identification of the structures, we have computed the full vibrational spectra of the clusters, along with the Raman and IR activities of the various modes using a recently developed first-principles technique. These represent, to our knowledge, the first calculations of Raman and IR spectra for Si clusters of this size. @S0163-1829~96!06227-3#

Theoretical Investigation of Hyper-coordinate Planar Si Clusters in [SiMnHn]q (M = Cu, Ni and n = 4, 5, 6)

In this study, the geometries of the [SiNinHn]q and [SiCunHn]q clusters, (n = 4,5,6 and q = 0,+1,-1) complexes have been optimized to form complexes with four, five and six planar and nonplanarsubstituents, with negative, neutral or positive atomic charge, using Density FunctionalTheory (DFT) at B3LYP/6-311+G (3df, p) computational level and then their thermodynamicstability were investigated b...

Structures and relative stability of medium-sized silicon clusters. V. Low-lying endohedral fullerenelike clusters Si31-Si40 and Si45.

We have performed unconstrained search for low-lying structures of medium-sized silicon clusters Si(31)-Si(40) and Si(45), by means of the minimum-hopping global optimization method coupled with a density-functional based tight-binding model of silicon. Subsequent geometric optimization by using density-functional theory with the PBE, BLYP, and B3LYP functionals was carried out to determine the...

Structures and relative stability of medium- and large-sized silicon clusters. VI. Fullerene cage motifs for low-lying clusters Si(39), Si(40), Si(50), Si(60), Si(70), and Si(80).

We performed a constrained search, combined with density-functional theory optimization, of low-energy geometric structures of silicon clusters Si(39), Si(40), Si(50), Si(60), Si(70), and Si(80). We used fullerene cages as structural motifs to construct initial configurations of endohedral fullerene structures. For Si(39), we examined six endohedral fullerene structures using all six homolog C(...

Spectroscopic evidence for the tricapped trigonal prism structure of semiconductor clusters

We have obtained photoelectron spectra (PES) for silicon cluster anions with up to 20 atoms. Efficient cooling of species in the source has allowed us to resolve multiple features in the PES for all sizes studied. Spectra for an extensive set of low-energy Si(-)(n) isomers found by a global search have been simulated using density functional theory and pseudopotentials. Except for n = 12, calcu...

Comparison Studies on Sub-Nanometer-Sized Ion Clusters in Aqueous Solutions: Vibrational Energy Transfers, MD Simulations, and Neutron Scattering.

In this work, MD simulations with two different force fields, vibrational energy relaxation and resonant energy transfer experiments, and neutron scattering data are used to investigate ion pairing and clustering in a series of GdmSCN aqueous solutions. The MD simulations reproduce the major features of neutron scattering experimental data very well. Although no information about ion pairing or...
